How I Use AI to Write Email Sequences in Bulk
Writing good email sequences is one of those tasks that sounds easy… until you sit down and actually try to do it. You need to find the right tone, keep a consistent voice, stay relevant for different customer segments and, ideally, do all that without burning an entire week.
I’ve tested several workflows over the past few months and now I’ve settled on an AI-based process that allows me to generate entire email sequences in bulk — quickly, while keeping the quality high.
1. Drafting the core structure with an AI writing assistant
I start by outlining the sequence: subject lines, key points for each email and the desired action for the reader. Then I feed this into my AI writing tool. The key is to give it enough context — for example:
- Who the audience is
- What problem the product solves
- The tone I want (friendly, authoritative, urgent, etc.)
- How many emails are in the sequence
With a clear prompt, the AI can generate a first draft for all emails in just a couple of minutes.
2. Personalizing at scale
Bulk doesn’t mean generic. My favorite trick is to give the AI a spreadsheet of customer segments, pain points, or past interactions. The model then adapts each email to that group — changing examples, benefits and even subject lines. This keeps the outreach feeling relevant instead of automated.
3. Editing for flow and voice
Even with a good AI output, I never send sequences straight out of the model. I read through them once for flow and consistency, making small edits to match my brand’s tone. The AI has already done 80% of the work — I just polish the final 20%.
4. Scheduling and tracking
Once the emails are finalized, I import them into my email automation platform. I usually run small A/B tests first — different subject lines or call-to-action wording — to see what performs best before scaling the campaign.
The results
With this workflow, I went from spending a few days on a single sequence to producing five or six sequences in the same amount of time. Open rates are actually higher than when I wrote everything manually, thanks to the personalization step.
If you write email campaigns regularly, AI can take away the most time-consuming part — the blank page. With the right setup, it becomes less about “writing everything yourself” and more about “guiding and refining” what the AI produces.
Pro tip
If you want your sequences to sound truly tailored, don’t just feed the AI a generic product description. Give it the kind of insider details you’d share with a close friend — the little quirks, benefits and success stories. That’s what makes the copy resonate.
